Photo of Joan in front of Michelle's cabin with the horses looking on. Joan is mother of Michelle. Michelle McKay
Otto lived at the 9E Ranch from 1999 to 2006. Michelle was a creative spirit who enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of the
ranch. She was an accomplished hunter jumper English horseback rider, an award winning photographer, a paramedic, firefighter
and musician playing both the flute and piano. In 2000 when the 9E Ranch Bed and Breakfast first opened she was often the
one to greet guests.
Michelle saw beauty everywhere, and when she found photography it was the perfect outlet for
her creativity. On October 8, 2006, as Michelle was returning from a wedding shoot, an elderly woman was driving on the wrong
side of the road and caused the fatal accident that took Michelle to Heaven. Many times it had been Michelle who was the
paramedic who saved lives at car wrecks.
Michelle lived life fully and the saying on her wall and web site (www.chelmckay.com)
"Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away" and that was how she lived. She
always took my breath away!
The 9E Ranch will never be the same and yet Michelle's spirit is still here in every flower,
every red bird, every waving pine tree, every sunset and in all her photos. The 9E Ranch is a "thin space" between Heaven
and earth, and sometimes the veil is so thin that while standing on the red sand we can feel Heaven and the beautiful spirit
of Michelle.
